On Tuesday early Christmas cheer was brought to 200 primary school children by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA).

Director of Tourism, Colin Piper attended the event which brought together children and well-wishers in the Christmas spirit.

“This is an annual event, sponsored by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA). One of the Association’s cruise lines typically comes in and presents the gifts. This has been going on for 20 years thus far and FCCA donates the gifts to over 15 different destinations.”

Representatives from Celebrity Cruises, which was in port on Tuesday morning, were on hand to bring presents for each child personally delivered by Santa Claus.

Piper said, “Typically, FCCA will indicate to us which cruise line is providing the gifts, and they will work that out behind the scenes. Celebrity has been a gift giver before.”

Piper, says the Discover Dominica Authority reaches out to different stakeholders annually to put on the event.

He is pleased that local agencies are usually wiling to assist.

HHV Whitchurch is a platinum member and agent of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association. The agent is also involved in the planning and logistics.

Michelle Hoseph of HHV Whitchurch called on other companies to give back to the community, saying that the FCCA has satisfied Whitchurch with the attention that they give to social responsibility.

Joseph said, “As platinum members of the FCCA from its inception, Whitchurch is satisfied that the FCCA has gone over and beyond their call of duty to engage in meaningful corporate social responsibility. It is our hope that more organisations will mirror their actions and give back to the areas of society that not only support them, but those that are unable to.”
