The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Wesley will be hosting a seminar focusing on transforming Dominican families this weekend.
Nelson Lambert Moriann, Pastor of a Seventh Day Adventist Church in St Lucia, will be the featured speaker and facilitator of that seminar which will commence on Friday 9 September and end on Sunday 11 September 2016.
Pastor Moriann, in an interview with Dominica Vibes on Thursday, explained that the church has discovered that there is a serious downscaling of what is supposed to happen in the family and the spill overs are evident in society.
He said because the church believes that family is the foundation and bed rock of society, the seminar is geared at redirecting people’s attention towards the basics and fundamentals of family.
Hence the first seminary will be in relation to fathers and men “because we begin to realize more and more that men are fundamental to some of the challenges, well most of the challenges that we encounter”.
“If you look across in society you will discover that men are in the wrong places, doing all the wrong things. So the intention is to reposition men for greater and more powerful engagement and connections with their families, with the church and with the community, so that proposed transformation can begin with men because we believe that fundamental to the teaching of scripture it all began with men, not that women are preliminary but we need to get back to the basics,” Pastor Mariann explained.
The Family Life Seminar will also focus on intimacy in the context of marriage in light of the alarming rate of divorce.
“We want to help people realize that you don’t have to go there because it’s all about intimacy, because the death of a marriage is an indication of the death of intimacy. We were born to live in community, but there is this raging controversy between the genders and it’s a simple problem; we just do not understand how we function and how God made us. So we become antagonistic against each other instead of being intimate allies and I want to teach Dominicans and the world how to become intimate allies so they can experience deeper intimacy and thus begin to block the figures and statistics of divorce,” he noted.
Moriann, who is also a Family Therapist, said the seminar will also focus on leadership, church growth and making the church more relevant to the people in society.
“We’re beginning to realize that there is a drift away from religion and of course in a postmodern context where there is a counter culture movement with the intention of destroying Christianity, I want to talk a little about that, so that leaders in the church can be rightly position for a greater and more meaningful growth in the church,” he informed.
The Family Life Seminar is open to all citizens, irrespective of their denomination, at no cost. It will commence at 7PM on Friday, 9:15AM on Saturday and 6PM on Sunday.
“We’re inviting all of Wesley, all of Marigot, all of Calibishie, all of Woodfordhill, all of Dominica; we inviting you so make you are there and it’s free, free, free,” Pastor of the Wesley Seventh Day Adventist Church, Collin Bacchus said.
