Improving the shock responsiveness of Social Protection, in other words its relevance to large-scale natural economic and political shocks, is an appealing prospect and an approach that will be cost efficient for the Government of Dominica and their partners working in Social Protection and Humanitarian assistance.

That is according to the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, Youth at Risk, Gender Affairs, Seniors Security and Dominicans with Disabilities, Hon. Adis King.

Hon. Dr. King revealed that a study in 2019 conducted by the World Food Program, found that the Social Protection System allows governments to reach their countries’ most vulnerable in quick time after shocks.

The Minister mentioned that the Government of Dominica has been proactive in acting on these findings and has started several initiatives to improve Dominica’s shock responsiveness of the country’s Social Programs.
