Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Blue & Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security, Dr. Kyra Paul, stated that the key to boosting the sector’s creativity and innovation is Dominica’s youth.

Dr. Paul made this statement during the closing ceremony of the Mentorship/ National Volunteer Program, created by WUSC Caribbean, partnering with the Dominica State College and the ministry. At the ceremony, 19 Agriculture students of DSC successfully completed the six-week program.

Dr. Paul indicated that the Ministry is very happy that through their agriculture policy, strategic development frameworks, and national resilience strategy, recognizes that agriculture is a key engine both social development and economic development.

She then stated that the 2022/2023 National Budget places heavy emphasis on agriculture, and speaks to the involvement of youth in agriculture.

Speaking to the Agriculture students of the Dominica State College, Dr. Paul stated that she hopes that with their experience from the program, they can serve as advocates to show agriculture’s importance to Dominica.
