Statement on Topical Waves to Affect the Eastern Caribbean on Sunday and Tuesday into Wednesday of this week

Two tropical waves are forecast to affect the Eastern Caribbean with the first expected during today Sunday and the other strong wave late Tuesday into Wednesday.

These waves are expected to produce gusty winds and potentially heavy rainfall with possible thunderstorm activity during the period. Seas are expected to become rough with swells possibly up to 12 feet on Wednesday.

The tropical wave of most concern is the system expected by Tuesday into Wednesday, which is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and currently has a medium to high chance of development during this week.

* Formation chance through 48 hours…medium…40 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days…high…70 percent.

This wave will likely be associated with stronger winds and strong squalls especially across the Windward Islands to the south of  Dominica, especially between Martinique, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada, Barbados, and Tobago from Tuesday evening through midday Wednesday.
