Principal of the Author Waldron Seventh Day Adventist School in Portsmouth, Ms. Carlotta Challenger has dismissed allegations that the school is closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

There have been reports that a number of students tested positive for COVID-19 which led to the closure of the school, however, the principal said this is an untrue statement and the school has been operating in an online fashion.

“The school is not. There’s absolutely no truth in that but we have school online, its not closed,” she told Dominica Vibes. She added, “School has been operating the same way from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM…No students have been in on the compound.”

There have also been reports of many cases at a few other schools and preschools on island.

Dominica Vibes sought to get some clarification from the Ministry of Education on the situation at the schools, however, the Acting Chief Education Officer, Dr. Jeffery Blaize indicated that data is still being collected and will reach out to the media when it is finalized.
