Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, with responsibility for Telecommunications and Broadcasting; Hon. Senator Oscar George

The Government of Dominica will very soon hand over educational devices to secondary school students across the island.

The Government procured thousands of devices and distributed them to primary school students across Dominica in 2021.

The Government of Dominica intends on ensuring that every single student is equipped with the necessary tools needed to excel in this now Digital Environment. They also stretched its commitment to the students, initiating a social broadband program, “Net 4 All”.

This new program was developed to allow students and their families who find it difficult to afford the internet service, to have access to services subsidized by the Universal Service Fund for a monthly fee of $10.

Minister for Telecommunications, Senator Oscar George, explained that the service itself does not cost $10, but it costs more than $100.

Senator George stated, ‘what we are saying is that if you have a student at your home, you will only be required to pay ten dollars if you meet the certain criteria, and the government will pay the balance of fees.’

He ended by saying that this is just the level of commitment the Government has towards students in this new learning environment.
