President of the National Youth Council of Dominica, Ms. Ashma McDougall, is excited about their first-ever National Youth Parliament that will hopefully take place this year. The National Youth Parliament, which was canceled last year due to the pandemic, is one of the significant projects that the NYCD will tackle this year.
McDougall stated that they are currently searching for 31 Youth Parliamentarians across the island. She expressed excitement for this event by saying, ‘We are excited for the advocacy for the debate for the public speaking that will come about from this event.’
‘We know that youth has a lot to say, so we want to provide the opportunity for them to be engaged and participate in the national issues that affect them, she continued.
The National Youth Parliament is a significant project by the NYCD which will provide an opportunity for youth to debate national issues within the House of Assembly.
There have long been calls for the installation of a Youth Parliament for Dominica, which is an integral element of the Constitution of the Council.
The Youth Parliamentarians will be appointed for a one-year term, and the call for parliamentarians is currently open until January 17th, 2022.
