The late Dr. William E. “Para” Riviere

A special sitting of the High Court of Justice in Dominica was held today Tuesday, December 14th, 2021, in honor of the memory of the late Dr. William E. Para Riviere.

Dr. Riviere passed away on November 30th, 2021. He was an attorney-at-law in the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Her Ladyship, Honourable Justice Wyante Adrien Roberts, said she remembers Mr. Para Riviere as a man of respect and great discipline.

She spoke about meeting Mr. Para Riviere when he came to court when he wasn’t feeling well that day. She stated, ‘this speaks volumes about the person that he was, this spoke volumes of his commitment, commitment to his job commitment to his clients.’

At the sitting of the High Court, the Honourable Justices, local legal practitioners, including the current Attorney General and other former Attorneys General, paid tribute to the former Attorney-at-Law and extend condolences and words of comfort to his family who also attended that special sitting.

The President of the Dominica Bar Association, Mrs. Heather Felix-Evans, expressed condolences to the family of Mr. Riviere. She said he was committed to the cause of empowering the people of his community and all black people.

‘Many of us in the legal profession did not have any frequent interactions with Dr. Riviere and did not hear about him in real-time during his most active years as he spent a substantial part of his professional life out of Dominica and returned to live and practice law here at a very senior age,’ Mrs. Heather Felix-Evans stated.

She continued saying that however, from the stories they’ve heard from Riviere, she thinks it would be accurate to say that he was a very bright and academically, high achieving individual.

The late Dr. William E. Para Riviere will be laid to rest on Wednesday at Portsmouth.
