The commencement of direct international flights from Mainland, USA, into Dominica has been described as a game-changer for the island’s tourism industry.
American Airlines made its first inaugural flight into the island on Wednesday, December 8th. Seventy-two passengers were on board the flight.
The Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit stated that they look forward to strengthening the partnership that has been developed thus far with American Airlines.
He continued saying that he is confident that all is in place to ensure smooth and reliable service.
The Minister for Tourism, Hon. Denise Charles also says that the commencement of the direct international flight is a game-changer.
She stated that one of the challenges to come into Dominica is air access or access in general to our country. She continued saying that they have articulated their goal to reach over 200,000 stay-over visitors by 2025.
Hon. Charles then explained that ‘so having American airlines in the mix which will add with the three flights weekly, an additional over 11,000 seats to the destination will significantly assist us in achieving this goal.’
