Acting Senior Meteorological Officer, Marshal Alexander has outlined various ongoing projects on island.
The Government of Dominica through the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernization and Kalinago Upliftmet, is constructing a met office in Jimmit as well as the installation of the Seismic Network in Dominica.
Speaking on Monday, Alexander stated that work on these projects are progressing well.
He stated that they also have the installation of a network of weather stations around the island. It is a network of about 44 automatic weather stations to include river measurement stations, water level stations, rainfall stations and fully automatic weather stations.
Alexander added that this is all aimed at building resilience in Dominica and added that infrastructure will only aid in increasing capacity.
“That would aid also in our analysis because with limited stations around the island, on doing an analysis, we would not be doing an analysis as to the average activity around the island but with the network of stations,” he stated.
He ended by pointing out that they would be able to get a better analysis of where exactly it would have areas of maximum rainfall.
