Dominican court adjourns Mehul Choksi’s hearing

The Dominica High Court has adjourned diamond trader, Mehul Choksi’s matter to July 1.

Both sides will now decide on the pleadings and arguments.

Mehul Choksi, a Fugitive diamond trader was arrested on May 23 in Dominica for alleged illegal entry into the country.

He further filed an application in the Dominican High Court challenging his arrest and the charges of ‘illegal entry’.

This case was heard on June 2 by Justice Bernie Stephenson where Mehul Choksi was denied bail.

The fugitive diamantaire pleaded ‘not guilty’ and moved a bail application on grounds that he was allegedly kidnapped from Antigua on May 23, 2021, and was forcibly taken to Dominica.

Choksi was represented by Former AG of Antigua and Dominica-born Justin Simon QC, John Carrington QC, Cara Shillingford-Marsh, Julian Prevost, Wayne Norde and Wayne Marsh.

The Dominican state was represented by Lennox Lawrence, Jodi Luke, and Attorney General Levi Peter.
