Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Digital Economy, Roland Royer

The Ministry of Public Works and Digital Economy has again reiterated its condemnation of ongoing vandalism and theft of solar street lights along the highways.

In a statement released Monday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Digital Economy, Roland Royer stated that to date, 250 light poles have been vandalised, costing the state approximately $775,000.

“Persons travelling via the E.O Leblanc Highway and the Dr. Nicholas Liverpool Highway would have observed the fallen light poles and vandalised battery boxes,” Royer stated. He also says that “this is very unfortunate”.

He further claimed that these vandalisms are unpatriotic.

Royer stated that police are conducting an investigation with 2 arrests made thus far. “We believe there may be other perpetrators,” he said while also asking the general public to report any suspected vandalisms to the police.
