In an effort to minimize all potential risks of a surge in coronavirus cases here in Dominica, a number of measures will be in effect for the 15th and 16th of February, 2021.

The announcement was made by the Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore.

“One, no gatherings of more than 10 or more persons in a public place including gathering at a camp for religious institutions or other purposes,” Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore said.

He says this does not include a gathering of persons who are members of the same household; a gathering at a religious institution; a gathering at the supermarket, shops, or other retail establishments for the purpose of purchasing groceries; a gathering at the restaurant for the purpose of dining on the premises; and a gathering authorized by the Chief of Police.

Mr. Blackmoor emphasized further, “there will be no playing of music in public places using loudspeakers or other forms of amplification.”

Meanwhile, Acting Chief of Police, Lincoln Corbette says as a result of the cancellation of Carnival 2021, there will be no street jump up throughout the island.

He also says all proposed events for the carnival have been canceled.

“The police have received several applications to hold events islandwide over the weekend. All of these proposed events have been disallowed …that is to say, permissions have not been granted to anyone to host any event over the carnival weekend – that is Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday,” Acting Chief of Police, Lincoln Corbett informed.
