Director of the Pan-American Health Organization, Dr. Carissa Etienne, has urged Dominicans to keep their guards up during these heightened and perilous times where COVID-19 is concerned.
The PAHO Director made this firm call to Dominicans during an interview with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on his first Annou Palé show for 2021.
“Do not let down your guard because this virus is serious. I look at programmes in Dominica frequently, I follow mass in Dominica, I see people wearing masks below their chin or below their nose, you need to wear masks and you need to wear them properly,” the PAHO Director warned.
She says the entire nation needs to continue to follow the guidelines and protocols that have been set to curb the spread of the virus.
“We need to ensure social distancing, we need to ensure that we wash hands frequently and avoid congregating.”
“There will be other times to enjoy ourselves, there will be other carnivals, there will be other sewos, and there will be other opportunities to have a good time with your friends and even your family. So this is a time when we need to continue to hunker down, where we need to continue to follow all of the advice that has been given and be yourself vigilant because if you see visitors coming in, some of them coming in illegal entry, you need to report to the authority and you need to ensure that if a person is supposed to be in quarantine that they are in quarantine, so be vigilant.”
Dr. Etienne added, “This is your country; these are your people and we need to remain healthy ourselves but we also need to ensure that others remain healthy. So, keep your guard up and do what it is you know that you should be doing.”
