The Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment has once again moved a step closer to the completion of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, under the New National Hospital Project.

The Hand over Certificate for Phase 3 of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, took place on Monday, January 11, 2021.

The Hand over Certificate for the Phase 3 project was signed by representatives of the People’s Republic of China’s Embassy in Dominica and the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and New Health Investment.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Hon Kent Edwards said, “This completed phase encompasses the number 2 medical technology building. This is a two-story building that houses an 8-bed capacity intensive care unit, blood bank unit, on the first floor, and the operating theatre on the second floor. The operating theatre has four operating rooms and is also fully equipped for telemedicine, a medical service that is being fully embraced by the ministry.”

Also part of Phase 3 is the two-story Outpatient Building which will allow for conducting all outpatient clinics in one strategic location.

“This structure is being used in the interim as a temporary accommodation for the male and female surgical wards as well as the male medical ward. This temporary measure was put in place to allow for the demolition of the old wards in preparation for the construction of a four-story inpatient building 1 and 2. These buildings will house the male and female medical-surgical wards respectively,” Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Hon Kent Edwards said.

With Phase 3 having been handed over, works continue at a steady pace towards the completion of Phase 2 of the hospital
