Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has commended the Ministry of Education for the bold but necessary step in reopening of school on September 7, 2020, despite the country recorded cases of the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19).
There was significant disruption of the regular functioning of educational institutions and learning of students and the ability of teachers and schools to deliver effective teaching.
The Prime Minister says the government is open to making changes if the need arises.
“There are other countries in the Caribbean that are looking to having school recommenced, and other parts of the world,” Prime Minister Skerrit said.
He added, “I believe if we all follow the guidelines and the protocols, we can mitigate against any challenge which we would confront. So, let us see how it goes if we have to make changes, we are open to make changes.”
“We will continue to engage the principals and teachers and parents and students to know their experiences and to make it happen. But we have to be practical and pragmatic in the situation.”
