The elderly should not be forgotten and taken for granted in their twilight years.
That’s the view of the President of the Dominica Council on Ageing, Ophelia Marie.
She says the older persons, grandparents, in particular, play a critical role in our daily lives.
“We sometimes forget that they are playing a role because those who are at home with school children have to be on the alert, they’re on guard so to speak. That is their way of doing things,” Ophelia Marie said.
“She added, “Many of us have stayed a while with our grandmother, grandfather, our aunty because mommy or daddy would be doing something else so they are there and they are accustomed to being there for the younger persons.” And they are people who obey authority,” she added.
The President of the DCOA reiterated the fact that the elderly must not be taken for granted but we must learn from them.
