Significant progress has been made towards the construction of an international airport here in Dominica.
This is because Cabinet has approved 213 properties required for construction of which 47 are farms.
That announcement was made by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit during his budget address.
He says the total market value of these properties is estimated at $50.7 million.
“Negotiations have been completed with 25 property owners,” Skerrit said.
He added, “Government will begin to make payments to the property owners and farmers in August 2020.”
According to the Prime Minister, Geotechnical surveys are expected to be undertaken by September, 2020.
“And how I cannot wait for this airport to begin, Mr. Speaker. And this airport will be built under this current Dominica Labour Party Administration.”
Mr. Skerrit also expressed gratitude towards the People Republic.
“We appreciate the commitment of the People’s Republic of China towards the construction of this important transformational project for Dominica, and we are grateful for their solidarity and support.”
