The MV AIDA Perla of AIDA Cruises made its inaugural call to Dominica on Saturday November 24, 2018.
The vessel arrived at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth at 8:00 am and will depart at 6:00 pm. This is the first of the ship’s eleven (11) scheduled calls to Dominica for the 2018/2019 cruise season.
A series of cultural entertainment was held on the Dame Mary Eugenia Charles Boulevard from 8:00 am and will continue until 4:00 pm.
Entertainment featured the talents of the Pointe Michel Cultural Group and the Paix Bouche Drummers among others which allowed cruise passengers to partake in the diverse cultural dances of Dominica.
Many passengers of MV AIDA Perla engaged in tours to many of the island sites which include the Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge and Mero Beach.
To commemorate the event of the ships inaugural call, a plaque exchange ceremony was held aboard ship at 10:00 am.
Director of Tourism and CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority, Colin Piper stated that he is “indeed pleased that the ship has decided to dock in Dominica.”
“We are extremely happy to have you here, because what you do in terms of bringing vessels and passengers to the island allows a number of citizens to earn a living and care for the families,” Piper stated.
He further went on to thank the captain noting that “we want to thank you in advance for the other ten calls that you will make to the island, in this season.”
AIDA Perla has an overall length of 300 meters, molded beams of 37 meters, and maximum drafts of 8.25 meters. The vessel has a dead-weight of 9,700 Dead Weight Tonnage and gross tonnage of 124,500 gross register tonnage. The cruise ship has 1,643 cabins and capacity for 3,286 passengers in double occupancy.
AIDA Perla has a total of 18 decks including 16 passenger decks, 12 restaurants, 3 snack bars and 14 cafes and bars.
A total of 181 cruise calls are projected for the 2018/2019 cruise season. This translates into a total of 304,031 cruise passengers. The call of AIDA Perla, marks the second of nine (9) inaugural cruise calls which Dominica expects, for the 2018/2019 cruise season.
