Days away from Mas Domnik 2020 and the events are heating up and piling up.

The Dominica Festivals Committee held its final press conference before next week’s carnival to update on the upcoming events.

Stardom Monarch of the tent took place on Wednesday night on the lalay coco strip. It ended with Jaydee as the Stardom King of the Tent.

The event entertained patrons with 30 performers, lapo kabwit, a Grenada Invasion and guest performances.

On Thursday night, Mas Camp calypso tent will have its Champ of the Camp show from 8:30 in Jimmit with top class calypsonians as well.

Meantime, the Miss Dominica pageant will be crowning a new queen that same night at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt.

She is Miss France 2019 1st runner-up and represented her country at Miss World 2019 pageant where she came first runner up.

She says she hopes to draw attention to her cause, that of children of deaf and speechless parents.

NexConnect is kicking off carnival weekend with Soulassion on Friday at Peebles Park. It begins at sunset.

Later that night, newcomer to the carnival calendar, Sunrise begins from 10pm at stadium forecourt. The fete is said to be the carnival version of Breakfast Fete. Scores of local, regional and international DJs and performers including headliner, Asa Bantan will take centre stage.

Viva la Carnival, a cooler fete, will have the Newtown Savannah busy from 4pm on Saturday.

Later that night is the highly anticipated Calypso Monarch Finals when nine will attempt to dethrone reigning king, Dice.

Calypso Association Public Relations Officer, Derek ‘Hunter’ St Rose says he’s calling it a 9/9 affair with nine competitors competing against nine-time king Dice.

Kiddies Carnival comes this Sunday organized by JCI Dominica. The children will have their own street parade followed by a day of games and fun at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Later that day, the Rotary Club’s annual All White Souse and Punch event which is over three decades old will thrill revelers with a Mardi Gras theme this year.

Genevieve Rolle of the Rotary Club of Dominica:

Souse and Punch runs from 3pm to 11pm.

That will be followed by the first Carnival Edition of Color Me More at the port grounds in Fond Cole.

Organisers say the event will blend the old school feel with the new school powder for a limited-edition affair. That runs from 11pm to 6am taking feters straight into J’ouvert morning.
