2020 Jr Calypso Monarch, Carnival Princess Crowned; Judges Pick 9 for Calypso Finals

Carnival lovers enjoyed a full slate of activities this past weekend.

The first win went to Malik ‘De Examiner’ Darroux of the Saint Mary’s Academy who managed to retain his title of Junior Calypso Monarch on Friday evening.

De Examiner dominated his other competitors with the, song ‘Visions’, written by Jerry Lloyd.

He expressed excitement on his win.

This is De Examiner’s second win.

First runner up went to Jedan ‘De Jed’ Jno Baptiste of the Dominica Grammar School.

Meanwhile, Cizanne ‘Cizlight’ Peter of St. Johns Academy came in at second runner up and Adrien ‘De Magician’ Piper at third runner up.

The juniors continued to shine despite the rainy weekend as Nyanna Stevens of the Wills Strathmore Primary School was crowned Carnival Princess 2020 on Sunday.

Stevens left carnival city with awards for best in spectacular wear, best talent and the people’s choice award.

Alianne Toussaint of the Convent Preparatory School emerged 1st runner up, and 2nd runner up went to Kaylee Titre of the Grandbay Primary School.

This past weekend, there was also action on the calypso stage as the judges picked their final nine.

Nine calypsonians got the greenlight to try their hand to unseat reigning Calypso Monarch, Dice at calypso finals on Saturday 22nd February.

The competitors finding favor with the judges are; Observer, Webb, Bobb, Bingo, Karessah, Healer, Hunter, Tasha P and Jaydee.
