Bouyon artist, ‘Asa Bantan’ Edwards has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador by the government of Dominica.
Goodwill ambassadors generally deliver goodwill by promoting ideals from one entity to another, or to a population.
The Grand Bay native has been using his music to promote the land of his birth in a noteworthy way over the years.
Asa got special mention from Hon Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Kenneth Darroux who said, “Let me be one of the first to congratulate him. Asa represents a large constituency of fans of Bouyon music.”
Dr Darroux says, “From a government point of view, we’ve been very impressed with his representation over the years. He goes out there as a Bouyon artist to entertain but he has this very fierce, undeniable patriotism in his presentations, props and dress. He never fails to mention his home.”
In a Facebook post, Asa thanked his followers crediting them for what he described as a milestone and a huge accomplishment.
He also thanked the Government pledging to continue representing his beautiful island saying that that will always be his number one priority.
Asa says he is grateful, filled with joy and overwhelmed with excitement.
He signed the post, Ambassador His Excellency, Asa Bantan.
Dominica’s songbird, Michele Henderson Delsol is also a Goodwill Ambassador and notably a grand bay native as well.
