Carnival 2020 is one month away and the Dominica Festivals Committee is keeping Mas Domnik at the fore with its weekly updates on the season’s activities.
The new event on the carnival calendar is Sunrise which is reportedly being considered the second J’ouvert. It takes place February 21st from 10pm to 8am.
Asa Bantan, the event’s headliner, says, “It’s a going to be a very exciting and different event. I want to big up the entire DFC team for coming up with that event. Our Carnival is very patriotic but it was missing something and that is what I think it was missing.
He revealed that several local artists, DJs and bands are on the lineup including Signal Band, Triple K, WCK and Carlyn Xp.
“It’s like the Breakfast Fete of Carnival.”
International and regional DJs will also entertain.
Kiddies Carnival is coming back for the second year after its hiatus in partnership with Junior Chamber International and the Discover Dominica Authority. It takes place on Sunday, February 23rd.
The theme for the children’s event is ‘I Am A Kid, Gro The Riddim, Grow The Mas.’
Mervillia Robinson of JCI Dominica detailed four sections based on age: slime, confetti, powder and paint.
“There will be a roadshow parade where children can wear their costumes while following the truck like adult carnival.”
The cost is $5 per child and $10 per adult.
Groups of 5+ pay $3 per child
Kiddies Carnival is from 12pm to 7pm and will also feature competitions, games, bouncing castle and scores of other activities.
DJ Reo, DJ Snow and Triple K International will be the musical entertainment for the children.
Several other activities, competitions and games have been listed and parents are encouraged to give their children this experience.
Meantime, Calypso Quarter Finals takes place this Saturday at 8:30pm with 39 hopefuls including newcomers, Abiya and Bingo.
The Swinging Stars Band will play backup.
Portsmouth Carnival opens this weekend as well, themed, ‘Still Rising’
The parade starts at 2:00pm with Triple K and Signal Band.
