The Dominica Cricket Association has big plans for women’s cricket this year but is concerned that that players are not turning up for training.
Augustine ‘Beno’ Pascal, public relations officer of the association said on Thursday that players are reluctant to turn up for training.
“We’d like to arrest that situation therefore we have planned a meeting so we can have a dialogue with the ladies,” he detailed.
He says the associations finds it “very strange that somebody could have been selected to play for their island and for whatever reason(s) or factors whether work or school-related” they fail to attend scheduled trainings.
He adds, “These reasons have not been conveyed to us and we would like to meet with them.”
He told Dominica Vibes that the Cricket Association intends to generate more interest in the game and that a master plan for cricket on the island is under development.
Pascal says however that players participation is critical to its success.
The Cricket Association says a women’s cricket tournament is scheduled for St. Lucia from January 31st to February 7th.
