The stage is set to hold the Calypso 2020 Eliminations this weekend.
On Saturday 4th January 2019, over 50 calypsonians will compete for a place in the calypso quarterfinals competition.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Dominica Calypso Association, Derrick “De Hunter” St.Rose informed Dominica Vibes that the association anticipates a fantastic show.
“Rehearsal is ongoing as we speak. The last day of rehearsal is [Friday] so persons who have not registered can still do so and rehearse tomorrow. So we are looking forward to big things this year. The songs are good so far,” he remarked.
St. Rose also hinted that some of the compositions this year may reflect the recent political climate and elections season stating that there are “a lot of interesting topics and as you know we just came from elections so the scene is still fresh.”
He continued, “so the songs are sounding good and we have few new artists, while the veterans are coming back as well. ”
While the list of Competitors has not yet been publicized, he assured that preparations have been going quite well so far.
” We have had several meetings and everything is in place, the venue is already set up, the stage is organized and the sound system is organized.”
The 2020 Calypso Eliminations will take place at Lalay Coco from 8:00 p.m.
St. Rose also confirmed that Calypso Quarter finals is scheduled for the January 25th while Calypso Semi-Finals will take place on February 8th 2020 and Calypso Finals staged on February 22nd 2020. All three shows will be held at the Windsor Park Stadium Forecourt.
