As part of DOMFESTA 2017, the Cultural Division is staging a Cultural Industries Information Fair at the Windsor Park Stadium on Friday May 26, 2017 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
The aim of the fair is to increase awareness of programmes of financing, training, marketing, copyright and other services that specifically target or benefit the cultural industries sector.
The fair will provide for information sharing via multi-media presentations and individual consultations. Presentations will be made by stakeholder institutions in the following categories: trade and services, financing, education and capacity building, information and communication technology, intellectual property and regional cooperation.
The fair is expected to be attended by representatives of public and private sector institutions, artists, musicians, artisans, entrepreneurs, college students and the media.
Cultural industries are industries which produce tangible or intangible artistic and creative outputs and which have a potential for wealth creation and income generation through the exploitation of cultural assets and production of knowledge-based goods and services. They include film and media, art and craft, fashion, theatre, book publishing, music and entertainment among others.
The Cultural Industries sector is considered one of the fastest growing sectors worldwide. In Dominica, the importance of the cultural industries sector to the economy is increasingly recognized by policymakers and corporate institutions. It is one of the components of the National Export Strategy. As such, the sector has benefited from empowering legislation particularly in terms of intellectual property, investments and financial support from government and private sector institutions, training and capacity building and cultural tourism initiatives such the World Creole Music Festival, Jazz n Creole Festival, carnival and independence celebrations.
The Information Fair thus presents an opportunity for stakeholders in the industry and the public at large to obtain information the range of programmes and services available as well as the latest developments in the cultural industries as a whole.
