Twelve calypsonians have advanced to the Calypso Quarter Finals.

Sixty-two (62) competed in the Calypso Eliminations at the Harlem Plaza in Newtown on Saturday 7 January 2016.

The lucky twelve are Jaydee, Tasha P, De Healer, Mighty Omee, Stephan, Third Eye, Comforter, Tronada, Chris B, De Nacheal, Leona and Jenius.

Della, De Haxey, Judgement, De Clarke and Beo Bradley are the five reserves in the event that some of the semi-finalists and finalists opt out of competing this year. One of them will receive Boople’s spot as he made it to the finals last year but has since died.

The competitors, who were judged, based on lyrics and melody, will meet the rest of the calypsonians who made it to the semifinals and the finals last year and will form the thirty-two calypsonians to take part in the Quarter Finals of 2017.

The 2016 finalists were Observer, Sye, Janae, Shadow Flow, Webb, Karessah, Checker, Dice and Bobb. Dice is the reigning calypso monarch and as such does not have to compete in the Calypso Quarter finals.

The other 2016 semi-finalists were Beno, Shadow Flow, Sting Ray, Charis D, Superior Picky, Daddy Chess, Earl White Jr, Black Diamond, Lugarz, Soul Puss, and Checko.
