 Solidarity Message Re: COVID-19 Pandemic

7th April 2020

The Commonwealth of Dominica Commonwealth Scholars Alumni Association (CDCSAA) wishes to express profound solidarity with the citizens and Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica during this challenging time, brought about by the global spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The hardships that we all face and will continue to face in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic are unprecedented in our recent history and will require our concerted efforts to safeguard the health of our communities and restore our economy.

We join the general public and members of the corporate community in conveying sincere gratitude to health officials and health care workers who are at the frontline of the fight against this pandemic. Additionally, we also extend our sincere thanks to public and private sector organisations who continue to provide essential services. We salute our supermarket staff, food providers, farmers, fisherfolk, teachers, pharmacists and carers who continue to provide essential goods and services during this time of crisis.

We urge Dominicans to observe social distancing and essential hygiene guidelines to combat the spread of COVID-19. We advocate strict adherence to curfew and quarantine regulations, and other official orders to contain this highly infectious and life-threatening disease.

Furthermore, we encourage the practice of self-care, goodwill and mindfulness during this time of social isolation. We wish good health to all citizens and a speedy recovery to those who are currently afflicted with COVID-19. Let us safely and conscientiously look after the best interests of each other, especially the most vulnerable in our society. Let us also practice social media responsibility by being judicious in the act of circulating information online. We should all verify the reliability of sources and the veracity of the information that we choose to share.

We the members of the Commonwealth of Dominica Commonwealth Scholarship Alumni Association eagerly await the day when we can all emerge victorious from this fight against COVID-19. We also look forward to resuming our outreach activities in Dominica.

With best wishes,

Dr Genora Joseph
