The Ministry of Education is identifying funds to furnish select primary and secondary schools with new desks and chairs and to refurbishment several buildings.
Honorable Minister for Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence, Octavia Alfred was speaking at the Houseof Parliament when she said, “I am elated to announce that the amount of $140,146 was granted by United Insurance Ltd to purchase furniture for various primary and secondary schools.”
She added that Government also earmarked $2.87m for refurbishment at select schools.
Hon Alfred outlined her Ministry’s plans to give attention to each school building on island making it more comfortable for learners.
“The physical environment of our school buildings and grounds is a key factor in the general teaching, learning, health and safety of our students, staff and visitors.
“School furniture, building and grounds must be designed and maintained to be free of heath and safety hazards and provide access to the physically-challenged,” she said.
The Hon Minister noted that Government aspires to improve the education system with resilience in mind, making the comfort of students and teachers a priority.
“We are determined to create for them a new normal,” she says. “This new normal will be safer and better ad stand up to natural disasters.”
