The Ministry of Education is planning to reintroduce civic education to the classroom.
This is the provision of information to equip young people with the skills and values necessary for civil life.
“We’re responding to this call and we will soon complete a new curriculum for reintroduction into our schools,” says Hon Minister for Education, Octavia Alfred.
She was speaking at a national consultation for a five-year plan for education.
Minister Alfred explained, “We want to develop students who can become future leaders, who are creative, who can solve their everyday problems and the bigger more pressing problems of their world, who can negotiate, resolve conflicts and manage stress and anger well. Students who are not only psycho-socially competent and intelligent but students who feel a high level of civic responsibility.”
