Twenty-four (24) more inmates of the Dominica State Prison will write the Caribbean Examination Certificate (CSEC) in May-June 2019.
This is possible through the Adult Education Division’s program to develop human resources through community non-formal education by providing skill training and academic qualifications Minister for Ecclesiastical, Family and Gender Affairs, Catherine Daniel told Parliament on Monday 30 July 2018.
“Twenty-four inmates of the State Prison participated in two courses this year; English A and Principles of Business at the Caribbean Examination Certificate level,” Minister Daniel informed.
“These inmates are expected to write the exam in May-June of 2019 so there is hope for them,” she added.
In May 2017, fourteen (14) inmates of the Dominica State Prison sat the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) in English.
The inmates, whose age ranged from 18-25, were transported to the Dominica State College to sit their exams.
That was a first time initiative of the institution as part of increased focus on using education as a rehabilitative tool.
