Over $250M in losses for Education sector

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development Chandler Hyacinth

The education sector much like all sectors on the island suffered tremendously from the impact of Hurricane Maria with preliminary reports indicating a loss of over two hundred and fifty million dollars.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Chandler Hyacinth said, “It’s not just the physical structure we have loss of curriculum materials, we have things like our equipment, even chalkboards, our furniture…the loss is tremendous.”

Hyacinth who was speaking at the daily press briefing on Friday 24 November 2017 said physical assessments are still ongoing.

Upon conclusion she said the concrete figures will not only show losses but also damages and the needs towards recovery.
