Dominica to benefit from CTO Management of Sites & Attractions Training

Roseau, Dominica -( September 14, 2018) Recognizing the importance of Dominica’s natural assets to the overall tourism product offering, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) will collaborate with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) to host a three (3) day “Management of Sites and Attractions” Workshop from Wednesday, September 19 to Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Conference Room of the Prevost Cinemall. The workshop will be structured around three themes: management of physical assets, the management of people and the management of business operations.

The overarching objective is to equip participants with tools and techniques that they can apply to the management of sites and attractions. The workshop is designed to be highly participatory and will include a visit to a local site to examine, analyze and discuss management issues. The topic areas are:

• Conservation of sites and attractions
• Techniques for management of sites and attractions
• International Safety and Security Standards
• Business and Emergency Planning
• Site Assessment

The workshop will be facilitated by Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Regional Human Resources Development Consultant, Sharon Banfield- Bovell. Mrs. Banfield-Bovell has been passionately contributing to the development of Tourism and Human Resources in the Caribbean region for approximately 18 years. In the capacity as Regional Human Resources Development Consultant, she is primarily responsible for training and professional development for the organization’s membership as well as the day-to-day management of the organization’s Hospitality Assured Caribbean Certification program.

DDA anticipates that participants will apply the techniques and tools learnt to management of Dominica’s sites and attractions.

DDA will continue its commitment to the development of the tourism human resource as it is an integral part to becoming a lead destination.
