Over the course of two days, eighteen (18) taxi operators took part in sessions geared at training them in Delivering Quality Service from Wednesday 18 to Thursday 19 July 2018.
The training organized by the Discover Dominica Authority was facilitated by Sharon Banfield-Bovell, the Regional Human Resources Development Consultant at the Caribbean Tourism Organization. She also facilitated a similar training for craft and souvenir vendors and hair braiders earlier this week.
During the certificate ceremony on Thursday afternoon, Banfield-Bovell thanked the participants to receiving her and what she was sharing with them.
“Thank you for being very participative, you guys were willing to share, we used your personal situations as case studies for us to dissect and we came up with solutions; together we came up with solutions.”
Participating tour operators, she added, recognized that they wanted to move from good to great and encouraged them to improve on the delivery of the service they offered.
“We started to appreciate what quality and excellence means in that delivery. So I’m imploring you, I’m trusting in you to not let it all end here today when you walk away with a beautiful certificate in hand but for you to complete that action plan which we started together and then to implement it.”
Banfield-Bovell also reminded them that their aim is to be professional.
“It was refreshing to see some of us were able to assess ourselves and recognize that we are not there yet but we know what we have to do to get there and we continue to move the goal post until we are the best that we can be.”
She also told them to never stop learning as continuous learning and improvement is important in being able to deliver the best service.
“So when the CTO goes out there and it backs on its membership, we can stand confident that Dominica and its tourism sector and its people is playing its part.”
This training is just one of the CTO’s human resource development training programs.
