Social media platforms have been featuring a fraudulent notice purported to be from LIAT’s head office in Antigua announcing the cancellation of incoming LIAT flights.
However, neither LIAT’s website, nor their Facebook account, feature any travel advisory or press release of that nature.
The fake notice, dated December 3rd, 2019, advises of “the cancellation of all flights to and from Dominica with immediate effect due to political tension in the country.”
Dominica Vibes spoke with Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority, Benoit Bardouille who assured that the Douglas-Charles Airport is open and LIAT flights are landing on schedule.
He also stated that he had spoken to LIAT officials in Antigua who had not informed him of any flight cancellations.
Tourism Minister Robert Tonge has confirmed the invalidity of the circular.
At 10am this morning he said, “LIAT has not cancelled any flights. Currently, LIAT is on the ground servicing Dominica. Air Antilles has also serviced Dominica. There is fake news going around that flights have been cancelled. As Minister for Tourism, I want to confirm that this is totally untrue.”
