The Hon Parliamentary Representative for the Petite Savanne Constituency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, has announced that fishers of Fond St. Jean in need of new boats and or outboard motors will soon get financial support.
He spoke to the media to make the announcement that $150,000 is available for fishers who want to build boats and another $100,000 to purchase motors.
Fond St. Jean is a small community where the livelihood is largely fishing.
Minister Darroux says, “This is a sector which means a lot to that part of the country. We have been promising assistance to the fishers for a while now. This $150,000 is strictly to build boats and another $100,000 has been approved through the Rapid Response Programme for Outboard Motors. We will meet with the Fisheries Cooperative to finalise the list and the cheques could be available within 24 hours once the list is finalized.”
He explained further, “There are some folks who only require outboard motors and there are others who want both boats and engines. Those requiring engines alone will get attention first.”
