The bidding process for the provision of telecommunications service to the government of Dominica has been won by Digicel.
The process officially opened on 2 March 2018, Minister for Information, Science Telecommunications and Technology, Kelver Darroux has revealed.
“Telecommunications and ICT are cross cutting and a necessity for all sectors in the economy. It is imperative that the role of telecommunications and ICT be seen as an economic resilience phenomenon and therefore a catalyst for economic growth and prosperity,” he said.
Digicel won the bid over four other service providers including FLOW who according to Darroux all submitted very detailed proposals for the rebuilding and provisioning of telecommunications, internet, data and other ICT services to the government of Dominica.
The awarding of this contract to Digicel comes upon approval from Cabinet after accepting the recommendation of the Bid Evaluation Committee.
“The proposal incorporates a national fiber broadband network with fail over redundancy using microwave and satellite technology as well as cloud technology for data backup,” Darroux explained.
He asked Digicel to ensure that they do everything in their power to give the government of Dominica “value for money”.
