(Press Release)ROSEAU, Dominica –On Friday May 18, 2018, Principal Representative, Cheryl Rolle, and Agency Manager, Brenton Hilaire, of Sagicor Life – Dominica presented a cheque for EC$7,500 to the Sagicor Southeast Football Club, a 100 per cent increase over the normal annual sponsorship in light of damage inflicted on the communities during Hurricane Maria.
The Sagicor team visited the football club in their community of Grand Fond during which both representatives of Sagicor provided motivation and inspiration to the team.
Brenton Hilaire; Agency Manager of Sagicor Life – Dominica, said “When you wear this jersey with the S on your chest, you are better than superman. You represent a company with a history of being in the financial services industry for 177 years. Therefore, great pride can be taken from that.” He further stated, “Your mindset will determine where you go and you should prepare and train now even if you do not see the opportunity at present.”
Cheryl Rolle; Principal Representative of Sagicor Life – Dominica stated “Discipline off and on the field, is expected at all times. Be ambassadors for your country and community.” She challenged the players to investigate the salaries of professional footballers and encouraged them to see it as a business. Mrs. Rolle further stated “We’ve seen many successful athletes from south east Dominica both in the local and international spaces. I would like you to continue intense training and discipline so that you too can represent Dominica overseas in professional football clubs. Sagicor recognizes your talent and ability and have supported this football club for the past 16 years.”
Ron Green, Manager of Sagicor Southeast, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the management of Sagicor Life for their continued support given to the team and announced the launch of the Sagicor Southeast Football Club Under 17 team. When speaking about the Club’s chances at the Dominica Premier League championship for the 2018/2019 season, Mr. Green was confident, saying: “We will take it.“
Sagicor Southeast Football Club has won the championship twice and has a history of always placing in the top four teams. Throughout their history, they have only ended a season outside of the top four once. At present, one member of the team is on Dominica’s National squad; though four others were offered the opportunity. The team was founded in 1990 and comprises of individuals from the communities of Laplain, Grand Fond, Delicies and Riviere Cyrique. Sagicor has supported this team for the past 16 years.
