Dominica will soon welcome a new international hotel brand, the Marriott International, through its partnership with Silver Beach Resort and Spa.
This partnership was announced on Monday 9 January 2017 during a press conference at the State House Conference Room.
Silver Beach Resort and Spa, a two-hundred room luxury hotel, consists of approximately 12 acres and is located on Picard Beach.
Marketing Manager of Silver Beach Development, Nisha McIntyre described this as the culmination of months of hard work, diligence and negotiations.
“Today we are proud to have our flagship resort, Silver Beach Resort and Spa, incorporated into the largest hotel chain in the world, Marriott International. We are very excited for the esteem that this affords us, and even more so for the opportunity to be affiliated with its autograph collection, a collection known for its unique hotels, unlike any other in the world,” McIntyre stated.
Marriott International, Inc. is a leading global lodging company with nearly 6,000 properties in 120 countries. It reported revenues of more than $14 billion in fiscal year 2015 and is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
Director of Silver Beach Development, Dr. Michael Lawrence stated that this venture is possible, due to the government’s continued exposure of the Citizen by Investment Programme.
“On behalf of the developers of the Silver Beach Resort, I would like to warmly welcome Marriott International to Dominica. As we are all aware, the CBI programme, was established several years ago, but it was the addition of the real estate option to this program, by this government, that has given impetus to hotel development in Dominica, and set the stage for the establishment of Silver Beach Resort and Spa,” he noted.
Dr Lawrence thanked government for their support, assistance and the resources they have invested in promoting the CBI programme.
“The process really started with the addition of the real estate option to the CBI program, giving us the unique opportunity to establish a five-star resort, in our beloved Portsmouth, on one of the best beaches in the country, with a spectacular view. We have established a team of persons of great integrity and professionalism to spearhead the development project and the project is progressing smoothly,” he informed.
Dr Lawrence added that the project’s main goal is to provide jobs for the country and to improve its economy.
“The project will create hundreds of jobs for Dominicans, during the construction phase and in the post construction phase of the hotel. Moreover, entrepreneurs and vendors will have the great opportunity to establish partnerships with the management of Silver Beach to provide goods and services to the hotel. More importantly, Silver Beach will provide for the training of Dominicans, locally, regionally and internationally, to provide the skills required for employment in the hospitality industry,” Lawrence further added.
