At a small ceremony on board the ship, Captain Gerrad Flippo, who has been the ship’s captain since 1998, said “I have been working many years with the agency and it’s always a pleasure coming here to Roseau and to Dominica”.
According to Mr Aird, H. H. V Whitchurch & Company became Geest Line’s agent in 1998 and at that time they decided to promote the image of Geest as a cargo carrier and not a banana ship.
He said it has been a “great privilege” to represent the carrier especially as “we have been in the business over 100 years Geest is always on time”.
“They have done a tremendous amount for Dominica because they have been providing a very efficient service of cargo coming in and bananas going out,” Mr Aird noted.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer at DASPA, Benoit Bardouille congratulated the captain and crew on its hundredth voyage.
“We look forward to continue doing business with Geest, you have been a very good customer and a friend to the port, and I would like to continue that that good relationship with Geest,” Mr Bardouille said.
