Member of Parliament for the St Joseph Constituency, Kelvar Darroux has presented one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) towards small businesses development in Layou.

Darroux presented the funds to Chairman of the Layou Improvement Committee, Lazare Charles on Friday 6 January 2017.

“A promise was made and today a promise is being kept…to provide direct support to the small businesses in the community. A number of businesses such as the fishing, the farmers in the community of Layou, the retail shops, hairdressers, restaurants and bars in the community, they will be receiving support from that,” Darroux stated.

He informed that the funding was provided through the Citizenship by Investment Program (CBI) and that the program “continues to play a tremendous role in the economic activities in this country”.

“Now, when you have individuals out there criticizing this programme and trying to bring this programme down, you can well imagine the impact it can have on the average citizen of Dominica,” Darroux added.

In accepting the funding, Charles said the committee will “continue to monitor the small businesses and give them further support that they may need whether it’s technical or more financial assistance”.
